Description
Wow, this one took me forever, have 10+ hours on it, its my 1st pixel art, so yeah... i did it in photoshop cs3 all with the pencil tool, marquee tool and magic wand. hope i do well in this contest, i am really alot more comfortable with vector, but who knows right? Named pixel+city= Pixity
Essay part:
When I saw this contest, I looked through it, really excited about vector art. I looked through the 5 styles of art and saw "pixel art". I thought it was really interesting because its taking some retro art and putting it into a modern setting. I immediately started on the vector art, because that was what I was more comfortable with. Once that one was finished, I started looking around and kept coming back the the pixel art, even though I have never done anything quite that style.
When I started my main problem was trying to find a scene to make, I kept thinking "it's pixel art, so do something simple" so I thought back to my art classes in elementary school, where you drew a city in perspective. I thought it was perfect, it was taking a retro art, and making a basic scene in 3d that really hasn't been explored too much in pixel art.
After reading about ways to draw pixel art without it looking absolutely horrible, I started on my first pixel art. While I was doing this, I was amazed at the amount of detail original pixel artist really went through to get a certain effect. I learned a lot about art while doing this piece, for instance, working really close to something at incredibly low resolution and zooming out to see it actually look like a car or a person.
I think this piece of art "Speaks Visually" because it takes something retro and 2d, and puts it into a more 3d setting. I think this is one pixel art that is different then the rest because i really didn't use just one technique, I used a wide variety of different ones. I believe I have created something original and unique for pixel art, and thats how my piece "Speaks Visual".
